People were having sex in the Ocean Park library and made porn videos

In the spring of this year, a video was posted online showing two women going into the Ocean Park branch of the Santa Monica Public Library and being sexually active in the library stacks.

 

The porn video, which starred performer Ellie Eilish, her unidentified cameraman and scene partner (it was originally titled on Pornhub "Eilish Caught Fucking in a Crowded Public Library," but was later removed at the request of the author), sparked outrage and anger from people who considered it inappropriate.

"This is wrong, this is completely wrong," resident Felipe Herrador told NBC Los Angeles at the time. "This is a public place, a library where there are children. How can the city or people allow this to happen?"

In February, local news from CBS Los Angeles reported that the 12-minute porn film was recorded during the library's regular business hours. It was uploaded to various pornhosting sites in December. However, the video was later removed from most of those sites.

A poll followed online about how other people feel about having sex in libraries and that others might be filming porn in public places, "Why do people have sex in libraries?"

"This video is deeply disturbing," City of Santa Monica officials said in a statement last February. "The lewd acts at the public library are a violation of library rules and are against the law. Library staff was unaware of the incident when it occurred. The Santa Monica Police Department is investigating."

According to the Santa Monica Police Department report filed Feb. 19, there is nothing but the date, and it is a case of a "priority 4" call, meaning that police have requested a response, but mostly for investigative reasons.

Chief Librarian Susan Lamb wrote in an email to Assistant City Librarian Erica Kuyugan on Feb. 16 that she had been informed by KNX Radio Station. The KNX radio station reported that Santa Monica police were investigating reports of a woman who allegedly got naked in front of John Muir Elementary and engaged in a sexual relationship with a man at the Ocean Park library.

"Needless to say it got my attention, but my personal opinion is that this couple was inspired by the "Hell Yes, I Am A Kinky Librarian" article after which many would like to have sex in the library, I don't condemn them, but it is not decent," Lamb wrote.

"Hi Karen, I got your message about the possible distribution of a video of a couple doing something at the Ocean Park branch while the library was closed," Cugan emailed another person on Jan. 28. (As it turns out, "something" the couple was doing? At the library, even though it was closed).

Most of the email, as well as Ocean Park branch manager Karen Reitz's response, in which she describes some of the controversy surrounding the report on Reddit at the time, is redacted, as are most emails between library employees. What is not redacted focuses on a discussion of how to manage the flood of media comments that began arriving in February.

Even with most of the emails, if possible, deleted, watching how the library might be shocked by a couple who decided to shoot porn between the shelves is intriguing.  Filming porn in public places can have serious consequences for those places. For example, a gas station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where a viral porn video was filmed, was in danger of having its license revoked. If you're going to fuck in public, not in the library, not in the snack aisle at the gas station, and not in a huge group in case of an outbreak. Consider following the advice of those who have done it the safe way, and instead. Try not to break the law and enjoy sex!
